According to a well-known legend, the 25 to 30 metre high hanging gardens werebuilt to please the mythical Assyrian-Babylonian beauty Semiramis who livedaround 775 B. C.

The architect Sostratos built the Great Lighthouseof Alexandria in the time around 279 B.C.The lighthouse stood for centuries, first andforemost as a beacon to travellers and next as atribute to the greatness of Hellenic civilization.

Mausoleum of Maussollos
In Halicarnassus on the southwest coast ofAsia Minor, King Mausolus (377–353 B. C.)had a monumental tomb built for himself. TheMausoleum was completed around 350 D.C.,three years after King Mausolus' death.

Statue of Zeus at Olympia
The Statue Zeus at Olympia was completedby 435 B. C. With a height of 12 metres thestatue had an amazing appearance. It wasmade of ivory and gold-plated bronze.

Great Pyramid of Giza
The great Pyramid of Giza with a height ofaround 147 metres, is the sole remaining worldwonder from the ancient world. This highestconstruction of its time was built between theyears 2590 and 2470 B.C.
