The complete Works of Francis Bacon, Baron of Verulam, Viscount St. Alban, and Lord High Chancellor of England in Five Volumes I, II, III, IV, & V, London Printed for A. Millar, in the Strand. MDCCLXV
Each book is bound in aniline calf skin leather with full polish to the edges. Gilt-blocked black leather labels to spines, with raised bands and compartments uniformly tooled in gilt. Single gilt-lined border to panels. Decorative gilt motifs applied to the spine of line art and floral patterning. Covers and spines do have some minor wear considering the incredible age of this collection (253 years).
Each book has a bookplate for a Mr. John Wheler. Vol. I also includes a bookplate for John Whelers relative Sir Trevor Wheler Baronet. Each book is signed by John Wheler on the title page. The Wheler Family Historical Baronetcie is a long regarded line of Baronets starting in the 1600s and persists to this day. Sir Trevor Wheler Baronet was a Lieutenant Colonel in the armed forces and served in the Peninsular war and the Battle of Waterloo.

Book Volume I has 2x multi fold out pages. One that extend out of the book. This page can be seen in image 5 of the listing, this is not a loose page but an extendable fold out page originally included in the book at the time of print and is intact although the extended edges outside the book have some curling. The second page folds flat into the book and is concealed when closed.
