This 2013 $15 fine silver coin from the Royal Canadian Mint is part of the Maple Hologram series, emphasizing the theme of peace. The reverse design features a striking design of an elephant in traditional dressing. Its riding blanket bears a central medallion containing a hologram of two maple leaves. Every detail of the coin is symbolic: the elephant’s long coiled trunk reflects longevity; and its ear, decorated with a chrysanthemum in full bloom, depicts ease and good fortune. Engraved beneath the animal’s belly are the Chinese characters for “peace.” Each type of flower engraved on the coin blooms at a different time in a year. As such, the coin’s motif is designed to extend a blessing of peace throughout the year.
