RMS Hesperian Shipwreck Artifact – Engraved Mauthe Clock (1915)

This original Mauthe clock, engraved "RMS Hesperian" on the top of the base, is a historic artifact recovered by the crew before the ship was lost.

The RMS Hesperian was torpedoed on September 4, 1915, by the same German U-boat and commander that had sunk the RMS Lusitania just four months earlier. While being towed to safety, the Hesperian sank on September 6, 1915.

Clock Details:

  • Maker: Mauthe G. M. B. H. Friedrich Eugen Man Dir Schreiber
  • Dial Emblem: "FMS" in a circle held by an eagle, indicating the Mauthe manufacturer.
  • Condition: In good working order, keeps good time, however may require servicing.
  • Base Diameter: 3.5 inches
  • Height: 3.5 inches (to top of pendant ring)
  • Note: One of the supporting pillars is loose and requires adjustment.

This is a rare maritime relic from an important moment in WWI naval history, directly linked to the U-boat campaign against Allied ships.
