RMS Hesperian Shipwreck Artifact – Engraved Mauthe Clock (1915)
This original Mauthe clock, engraved "RMS Hesperian" on the top of the base, is a historic artifact recovered by the crew before the ship was lost.
The RMS Hesperian was torpedoed on September 4, 1915, by the same German U-boat and commander that had sunk the RMS Lusitania just four months earlier. While being towed to safety, the Hesperian sank on September 6, 1915.
Clock Details:
- Maker: Mauthe G. M. B. H. Friedrich Eugen Man Dir Schreiber
- Dial Emblem: "FMS" in a circle held by an eagle, indicating the Mauthe manufacturer.
- Condition: In good working order, keeps good time, however may require servicing.
- Base Diameter: 3.5 inches
- Height: 3.5 inches (to top of pendant ring)
- Note: One of the supporting pillars is loose and requires adjustment.
This is a rare maritime relic from an important moment in WWI naval history, directly linked to the U-boat campaign against Allied ships.
